Jon Bon Jovi is one of the many artists who is staying active during the lockdown. Like many others, he is busy writing songs, but the song he is currently working on has a different spin. He’s asking his fans to help him write it.

Bon Jovi posted a video on March 22 on his social media sites, in which he explained what the project is all about. He started off by saying, ““These are trying times we’re going through: uncharted territory, the great unknown. But one thing is for sure, we’re going to make it through. I did what I do best which was to sit down with my guitar and try to put something in words for you, maybe to brighten up your day,
He went on to explain that he had written the first verse and chorus of the song and he is asking fans to write the remainder of the verses. He gave them some ideas for the lyrical content they could provide.
"Tell me what you're going through. Tell me how you're feeling. Tell me if you're hurting," he said. "Talk about that high school graduation that's going to be cancelled, talk about that prom you just might not have, talk about that baby coming there's nothing you can do about that. Talk about the paycheck that you're losing. Talk about being afraid, looking out your window and wondering what to make about all of this."
Then he sang what he had written for the song so far. It can be described as a heartfelt ballad. The lyrics in the chorus are as follows.
When you can't do what you do, you do what you can.
This ain't my prayer, it's just a thought I'm wanting to send,
Round here we bend but don't break, down here we all understand.
When you can't do what you do, you do what you can.
Fans who want to participate in the writing of the song should video tape themselves singing their verse and post it to the Bon Jovi social media sites with the hashtag #dowhatyoucan.
The coronavirus health scare has touched Bon Jovi in many ways. His keyboard player David Bryan recently tested positive for the virus. Fortunately, he is doing well and says he is feeling better every day.
Bon Jovi has also been doing his part and was washing dishes at the Soul Kitchen Community Restaurant in Red Bank despite the pandemic. Last Saturday, Chicagoans got together and sang ‘Living on a Prayer’ from out of their windows as a way of showing solidarity during these scary times. It is fortunate that the musician is using his music as a way to lift people up and help get them through.
