Sufjan Stevens has announced a new album titled Aporia. The project is a collaboration with Sufjan's step-father and co-founder of the Asthmatic Kitty record label, Lowell Brams.

Brams is an experimental musician who married Stevens' mother Carrie in the '80s. Stevens and Brams launched Asthmatic Kitty in 1999. Eventually, they transferred their chemistry into the studio for the 2008's project Music for Insomnia. Last Stevens' album, 2015's Carrie and Lowell is a remembrance of his late mother through her marriage with Brams.

Aporia was recorded over the last few years at the Sufjan's New York residence, writes Consequence of Sound. Although it consists of 21 songs, it represents just a fraction of the “hours upon hours of music” the pair actually played in the studio.

“You know how it is with jamming: ninety percent of it is absolutely horrible, but if you’re just lucky enough, ten percent is magic. I just kept pulling out these little magical moments,” Stevens commented in a statement.

Stevens and Brams shared the video for "The Unlimited" as a preview.

Since Carrie and Lowell Stevens has scored Call Me By Your Name and The Decalogue. He also dropped a double single, “Love Yourself” and “With My Whole Heart”, last year.
